Pickering (Jonas) is born in New Hampshire.

Jonas Pickering arrives in Boston in 1818, works as an apprentice in the shop of pianoforte maker John Osborne, then founds his own company with another apprentice in 1823.* He goes on to develop piano manufacturing technology and become the largest maker of pianos in the country. Pickering dies on December 8, 1853.
